View Full Version : Rollercoaster THEORY

This is just something I thought of last night which I don't have time to develop but thought someone else may be interested in taking it further. I've outlined a few problems and possible solutions, but I don't know wether they'll work at all. Basically, I theorised that you could record a bot path in a plane taking the course of a rollercoaser (or other similar system) and then model the coaster using objects and go round it. To go round you would have to be driven in a car, but there are a few solutions I can see. First - use the flowerpot, this is the solution I'm least sure about but anyway - using this would minimise the viewability of the car, you could attach objects to the player to build what you wanted the carriage to look like, to get round the problem of seeing the driver you could try change their VW, but not the car's (I don't know if this will work at all I'm afraid). The second option is to just use a car that looks a bit like a rollercoaster carriage (you could theme the coaster to aid the effect) and pretend the bot is another rider, not actually the driver.

As I said, it's an early stage idea based on the fact that bots driving on plane paths ignore the vehicle type.

The other problem is recording the path acurately enough to look like a real rollercoaster, but I'm sure some good pilots can deal with that.

This is actually a really good idea, nice thinking Alex. :)
So are we talking about a first person view for the rider(s) when riding the roller coaster? If so that'd be even more cool, I know it's possible and would be very effective for visual effects and the experience.

You could spectate the bot I suppose, that could be a good solution too (is that what you meant)? If you meant constantly updating the player's camera the idea of this is that it would be pretty smooth (or should be anyway), that would loose some of the effect.

omg i was think exactly this but in a slightly different way :P

I meant constantly updating the player's camera, and I thought of it being extremely smooth, but maybe you're right about loosing some of the effect after all..
However I never thought of spectating the bot, that could work I guess?

I've done some research before about how spectating a bot would look while he/she is in a vehicle, and it works marvelously when the vehicle isn't tilted too much. It gives a perfect First Person View of the bot no matter what seat it's in. So you could just fill the vehicle with bots, and a different person could spectate a different bot, but the bots will have to be in an animation that moves them outside of the vehicle (crack animation worked for me) so that they don't see the bots head.

Honestly this would work better for a train/taxi system, simply because going upside down won't cause the camera to go upside down, therefore, they see the bottom of the car.

In that case, spectating a bot would be the best thing to do. :)

Constantly updating the player's camera is a bad idea, causes shakes that is reminiscent of a seizure case with astygmatism.

I've never actually tried constant updating myself, but I can see something like that happening and not being smooth now. at all. |:

I think the mapping process would bore me.

How does an NPC react to objects? If you have a faux rollercoaster track that the cart (a car in a differnet interior with the ferris wheel cart attatched to it?) going through it, will other players see it going through it normally? Or will it spaz out with shaking and crashing sounds?

great, but there are no objects to make a rollercoaster

could use all sorts of objects to make it into a Rollercoaster, peir stands or telephone poles would look best for support bars would be like 700-1200 if you were to make it look real tho but its still a sweet idear.

Wouldn't it be better to make the bot first, get it all going then with an ingame map editor build a rollercoaster around the bot?

i would build the rollercoaster then record the npc going round it then change the vehicle to the flowerpot then (i dont know if this is posible) but attach like the mods from the elegy (wheelarch angles) to the flowerpot to make it look like a coaster car.

sorry for intruding on a topic but just think the idea is a awsome one (keep them coming Y_LESS ) out of everyone on this forum Y_LESS has allways tryed to push the boundrie of whats posible

Ehrm i said i allready mapping it and i maybe will do a bot, i just need to know how to attach many objects to 1 player or bot... i mean that the objects are still normal and not all at the same position.

People are free to map their own versions - there's more than one rollercoaster in the world!

... Why my post got removed?

But yea... i will start tomorrow and creating an other thread of realase. Thanks Y_Less, i will add credits for idea ;)

Imo a good location would be arround SF Financial area.... or LS downtown.... Rollercausters + skyscrapers = fun. :D

How would you know when to rotate the roller coaster objects?

The rollercoaster would be doing twists and turns, and the objects would be straight the whole time...?

thats why you need a bot in a car.

Hey Y_Less such thins had my server when the first bots came for samp 0.3 ... and i can tell ya that you can lock the car and then use ex ctrl to put the passengers in it, I used a bus. first what i did is make a only tunnel and then record a car going and setting faster velocity, then i removed unusable objects the car didn't need. and then nobody used it, it was boring. so i deleted it from the server.. ;x i don't know if i still have the code in my shitty desktop..

you can set vehicle's interior to make it dissapear, am i right?

The_Moddler

I just linked bot and car to interior 6, if you change bot virtual world, it won't work.

A good way to make an invisible vehicle is to set the vehicles Interior to another (-1 ?) so that all the passengers are invisible ...

It's the way i made this:
