and not get updates.

But when it's open like in github everyone will submit improvements daily and admins would just accept/decline.
You need to learn contribution, try contributing to trending github repos, you'll get my point.

Based on your statement, I can go and make a Visual Studio Code for myself since its open source
Many awesome projects are open source now, they have LICENSE so no one can do shit.
People will contribute and make them even more awesome. anyway it's maybe too late for samp to be open source.
Besides potential theft, doing this imposes further "security risk" if you will. Hackers or people with malicous intentions may use the code to specially farm malicious programs that do a variety of different things. Yes, it being open source would also allow the community to patch such instances yet this is still a strong argument against open sourcing SA:MP.

Am I dreaming? are yous seriously talking about security when project is open source?
You have no IDEA what open source is. Thousands of languages and frameworks are open source now.
Python for example or django (a good framework for python).

You need to lookup what is hacking and open source.
People/Hackers find bugs in open source projects and fix them themselves.

Oh honey, if the project was open source, no one could change the internet list.

Open-source SA-MP, would just have people jump in, grab a copy, then piss off to 'try' make their own...

It's not going to happen.

Having open source allows people to read the code and understand how they can make hacks to disrupt... No matter if other 'hackers' are looking to fix things, they may not get them all, and thus leave the project open to more severe attacks.

There are obviously different opinions about this subject.
Mine is the same as Sew_Sumi's and it's based on how the community has been acting in the past.

There are websites and forums that specialize in finding and exploiting weaknesses, and SA-MP may have lots of them that we know absolutely nothing about.
Once the source code is out there, these guys will have their eyes on everything and they will be able to monitor the development, thus releasing new hack patches within hours after the new builds are released.

You're not living in a goddamn utopia where everyone is good and everything is safe. There are people that are absolutely set on harming everyone around them just because "it's just a game and it's fun". Honestly, guys, wake the fuck up!!!

10 years? Maybe a proper anti-cheat... No? Well, I'll enjoy more stunt ramps.
