All this syntax is doing is saving you one byte in your source code. That's it. This is not any more a structure than what enumerated arrays are used as currently. Something similar was suggested here but, despite looking simple on the surface, it's very difficult to pull off in practice - as the issue comments explain.

To conclude, yes we can make modifications to the compiler that provide some of these features but if the only reason is to replace a [x] with a .x then I would argue that's simply not worth the effort to save a few bytes in your source code.
