Acquire the 64 bit version of your OS. Download from here. If your OS version (e.g. Home Premium) isn't listed for your language then download the Professional or Ultimate anyway. We'll fix this later.

Then use Microsoft's tool to put it on a USB. Once this is done, explore the USB and go into the 'sources' folder. Delete ei.cfg. This file determines what version of Windows will be installed. If this file is missing the Windows installer will prompt you for the right version during installation.

Before continuing make sure you have BACKED UP all your (important) data to an external media or a secondary drive in your PC. While it's possible to install Windows on an empty partition beside your current data it's usually preferable to wipe the drive the new Windows installation will reside on.

Put the USB drive in your PC and reboot. During reboot mash either F2, F10, DEL or ESC to bring up the BIOS or boot order menu (different for each motherboard, usually it's one of those). Change the boot order so it will boot from the USB. If you've done this correctly you should see "Windows is loading files ...". Then follow onscreen instructions and you should be good. Install the CORRECT version of your OS. If you had Home Premium install Home Premium again. Don't be tempted to install Professional or Ultimate because you won't be able to activate it!

64-bit OS got barely any advantages compared to 32-bit if you got less than 4gb ram. Its main purpose is to enable 64-bit addresses and so use more than 4gb ram.
